A schoolboy has sent Twitter users into a frenzy after revealing he wore a bright red skirt and sequined tuxedo jacket to his prom.
Sixteen-year-old Korben’s bold fashion choice went viral on the social media platform over the weekend after his mother, Nina Green, tweeted photos of his stunning outfit to showcase her support.
The pupil is said to have stepped out in the billowing ballgown skirt and shimmering jacket to loud cheers from his classmates and staff members at Archbishop Sancroft High School in Harleston, Norfolk, reported the BBC.
Nina captioned her images: ‘At age 12, my son announced he wanted to go to his school prom in a gown. Four years later we made it happen.
‘I’m so incredibly proud of him for being true to himself and the reception he got from his whole school was incredible.’
She also tagged RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, asking for her thoughts, to which the American celebrity replied: ‘Ohhhhhhhh yes! You are an amazing, beautiful mom and your child is a STAR.’
Others were quick to agree with Michelle and compliment Korben’s statement ensemble.
One wrote on Twitter: ‘He looks stunning, his gown is amazing and I love his crown too. Hope he had a wonderful prom.’
Another said: ‘I must say that your son is stunningly beautiful in that red dress and a crown of glory. One of the best prom gowns I’ve ever seen.’
‘Happiness. That’s what life should be all about. Being happy. Making dreams a reality. Being yourself because that’s the best way to be. These photos are joyous,’ added a third.
The post was retweeted more than 3,000 times – including by a host of famous faces – and liked by 119,400 social media users.
Mrs Green later discussed the reaction she had received, posting on Twitter: Wow! When I posted images of my son being true to himself I never expected it to get the response it has.
‘The support and positivity has been overwhelming and have totally drowned out the few negative ones, which we take no notice of. It’s his life and I’m letting him live it.’
She recalled to the BBC: ‘As soon as he got out of the car, everyone just cheered and I was crying, some of the teachers were crying, because he was being who he wanted to be.
The following day, when at Pride in London, the son and mother duo had a fan come up to the 16-year-old and ask ‘are you the boy in the red dress? I think you’re amazing’.
Mrs Green recalled how her son had always loved wearing dresses. From his early teenage years, he has performed as ‘sassy’ drag queen Miss Frou Frou.
But he didn’t attend his prom as Miss Frou Frou, with Mrs Green adding: ‘He wanted to go as himself, while expressing his feminine side – with a tuxedo on the top and a dress at the bottom, very much influenced by [American actor] Billy Porter.
‘He wanted to be Korben… but in a dress.’
