Christian Bale Says He Is Willing to Play Batman Again Only If Christopher Nolan Is Directing

Christian Bale played the iconic role of Batman in The Batman Trilogy, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Night Rises from 2005 to 2012.

Recently the actor has opened up about his intention of doing another Batman movie. In his interview with Variety, Bale stated that he is willing to put his Batsuit back on only if Christopher Nolan would direct the movie.

“I had a pact with Chris Nolan, we said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.” He said.

Bale and Nolan worked together on three Batman films, and ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ both grossed over 1 billion dollars at the box office.

When asked if he was getting any offers to return to the DC franchise, he said,

“No. No one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up. Occasionally, people say to me, ‘Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.” And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.’”

While people always associate him with his legendary role as Bruce Wayne, the film directors decided to move on to other actors after 2012 and picked Ben Affleck for Batman V Superman in 2016.

Ben also played Batman in Justice League 2016 and 2017 and Suicide Squad.

In 2022, Robert Pattinson played Batman in The Batman movie, which went on to gross more than $770 million at the box office.

But according to 48-year-old Bale, he still hasn’t watched the movie featuring Pattinson.

“I still haven’t seen it. I will see it. Listen, mate, it’s amazing how few films I see. Every director I work with, I’ve seen a couple of their films and they’re always looking at me going, ‘Are you kidding?’ I like to really savor films and I don’t watch too many. But I will, I certainly will.”

“Robert is an absolutely wonderful actor. We bumped into each other, talked a little bit about it ahead of time, and I heard wonderful things.” He told Variety.

Although the majority has commended Pattinson for his iconic performance in the new Batman film, many fans of the DC franchise want Bale to make a comeback.

“Actual W, love the other actors who played Batman, but I still think he’s my favorite one,” a fan wrote on Twitter.

“Bale is the best actor to portray Batman. Period.” Another user wrote.

“Christian Bale is the only Batman who can say, I AM BATMAN.” Someone else said.

So, as of now, Christian Bale is not returning to the Batman movie franchise. However, he is all set to appear on the big screen in his upcoming movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled to be released on July 8.
