This touching story is about humanity and love – the sheer power of healing that comes with pure love. It’s about a baby who was hated by his parents at birth for being deformed. The baby was left at the hospital, a nurse & her husband adopted him and gave him a loving family!
The Cruelty of Life
Baby Adam was born with Bartsocas–Papas syndrome – a congenital disorder associated with severe deformities and degenerated limbs development, among other things. Upon seeing the baby, his parents weren’t happy. The doctors also told the parents that Adam won’t have much time to live – three weeks or less.
His parents weren’t willing to take him home and were even willing to take his life if they were forced to take Adam home. Worrying for Adam’s safety, the doctor’s didn’t force the parents to take him home and kept him at the hospital.
Humanity & Love will Always Persist
A nurse at the hospital, Jessica Cooksey Paulraj, found out about baby Adam’s traumatizing story of abandonment. She and her husband, Raja Paulraj, instantly took him in and adopted him as their son! The lovely couple welcomed Adam in their family where he had two brothers who loved him all the same.
Adam, who was told he had three weeks to live, proved everyone wrong. While writing on the Michaela Evanow blog, Jessica said:
“In September 2014, we will celebrate our oldest son’s 3rd birthday. His name is Adam and from what medicine and logic predicted, he was not supposed to live past 2 months. Three years? How quickly they seem to have passed as I look back,”
“Fourteen surgeries have come and gone for Adam. Nearly $300,000 was given on his behalf. Two brothers, Elliot and Rohan, joined the ranks of our family, and Adam became an older brother. Our family has traveled from India to America and back again.”
After almost five years of a happy and beautiful life with an incredible family, Adam sadly passed away in 2016 due to his condition. Jessica dedicated a post on their official website, we:unformed, where she wrote:
“Our little bird met his Maker and Sustainer…the Shepherd of his soul early this morning. There was incredible peace that enveloped his fragile, swollen body,”
“He will be missed by so many. It’s indescribable to explain this ache. Yet to imagine his body restored and to imagine him surrounded by glory and welcomed by his Father…it’s a pretty good balm to our weary souls.”
We Salute this Couple
Jessica & Raja Paulraj, you two are true superheroes! We wish you all of the blessings life has to offer, may you and your family always live a happy life!
