Yeah… we can see why.
Season two of HBO’s Euphoria is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, we not only get fan theories aplenty, but oftentimes commentary from the actors. Sydney Sweeney herself is offering up this week’s commentary, sharing more about that hot tub scene from Episode 4.

By now, we all know that Cassie, Sydney’s character, is going through a lot this season, mainly because of her not-so-fortuitous encounter with Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) during the season’s premiere. In that episode, the pair end up having sex at an NYE party and, to avoid getting caught, Cassie is forced to hide from her BFF-and-Nate’s-ex Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) by tucking herself away inside a bathtub. Given their rocky start, one might assume Nate and Cassie would put an end to their turbulent affair sooner rather than later. However, we’re now four episodes in — and the end is nowhere in sight.
During the fourth episode of the second season, we get our first real peek into Cassie and Nate’s objectively very toxic relationship (beyond the sex, that is) while she prepares to stay the night at his house. We learn then that Nate had a heart-to-heart with Maddy about love and their past relationship. Cassie confronts Nate and accuses him of getting back together with Maddy, which he denies — but in a slip of the tongue, accidentally calls Cassie by his ex’s name. Cassie storms out of the house, but soon enters her familiar spiral of desperately trying to grab Nate’s attention. Cut to: Maddy’s birthday party.
Nate shows up to Maddy’s party, which is being held at Cassie and Lexie’s house, with a Tiffany & Co. necklace for the birthday girl. The two are seen striking up conversation more than a handful of times throughout the episode, which visibly irks a very drunken Cassie. Nearing her breaking point, Cassie decides to change into a breathtaking hot pink swimsuit to steal Nate’s attention as she heads towards the hot tub.

Shortly after, Maddy, Kat, and an unwilling Nate join her. When Maddy starts calling Nate out for all the cringey things he says to her in private to try and reconcile their relationship, Cassie breaks up the argument by violently puking into the water — which, in turn, makes Maddy (and many viewers at home) start to gag. As it turns out, Sydney Sweeney had a similar reaction while bringing the scene to life.
In an interview with Decider, Sydney opened up about the intense yet hilarious scene. “During the hot tub scene, during the throwing up, I got really grossed out,” she said. “They had this invisible tube that looked like a horse bit and they put it in my mouth and I had to somehow hold and make it look semi-normal and then throw up over everyone which was… it was so gross.”
“Every shot [director Sam Levinson] wanted her to be drinking a different bottle,” Sydney also shared about the scenes leading up the incident. “So if you notice, every single shot she has a completely different bottle in her hands. By the end of that episode, I’m like, how many drinks is she in? She was gone.”
Even if the whole vomit tube experience was… erm, less than desirable, Sydney appreciated the challenge. “I always love these kinds of scenes where we’re all together,” the actor said. “Because a lot of times we don’t get to have many scenes where we have a bunch of girls together and we were literally in one room. So, it was chaotic but fun.”
Sounds like a pretty good way to sum up Euphoria season 2, so far!
